Our Mission
To foster an accessible, supportive choral experience for people looking to (re)introduce a creative musical outlet into their lives.
Our Vision
Creating an inclusive artistic community that welcomes, celebrates, and encourages the talents of individuals through a shared love of choral music.
Our History
The Morris Park Singers was founded in in late 2021 and had our first rehearsal on January 10th, 2022. The Minneapolis-based choir first rehearsed in the cafeteria at Grace Lutheran Church, and then the sanctuary of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, before landing in its current home at Mill City Church. The choir was originally created under the umbrella of the Morris Park Players in an effort to take the organization back to its roots (and because full stage musicals were not an option during Covid). Morris Park Players started back in 1952 as the Morris Park Father Singers. Over the years, the group transformed and expanded its repertoire, first changing in 1968 to the Morris Park Singers, before eventually becoming Morris Park Players in 1981. Even though the choir was initially potentially just supposed to be a temporary Covid placeholder, the Morris Park Singers quickly experienced massive growth and success, expanding by over double between our first two seasons. The Morris Park Singers quickly became a community where singers who just wanted a creative outlet back in their lives could come and make some great music together. As the choir continued its growth and success in its first 2 1/2 years (quadrupling its singers and its audience), it made the decision to become its own organization and in May of 2024 became it's own nonprofit. The Morris Park Singers looks forward to these exciting next chapters and is proud to be a part of the rich choral music community in the Twin Cities.

About the Choir
The Morris Park Singers is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit mixed voice (SATB) community choir based out of NE Minneapolis, rehearsing and performing at Mill City Church. They do two “mini-seasons” a year, one in the fall and one in the spring, in an effort to provide a simpler and easier time commitment for their singers. They rehearse once a week for two hours, preparing for their concert at the end of each season. As a way to pay homage to their Morris Park Players roots, there is a slight repertoire focus on popular and Broadway music, but they still do a wide variety of choral music (anything from Renaissance motets to gospel arrangements to larger Classical movements and everything in between). The Morris Park Singers has become a community of people who, through whatever the happenstance, wanted choir back in their lives. Through our mutual love of singing, our choir is able to create heartfelt musical moments together. We look forward to you all joining us (either as a singer or as a patron) in sharing those moments together.
About the Director
Danny Dahlquist-Johnson is the proud Founder and Executive Director of the Morris Park Singers. He first joined the Morris Park community when he was part of the cast for their 2019 production of “The Little Mermaid”. He then went on to be the Music Director for their next show, “Big Fish”. He officially joined Morris Park as the Treasurer of Morris Park Players board in September of 2021 where he was also tasked with restarting the Morris Park Singers. He has his Bachelors of Music in Vocal Music Education from St. Olaf College and his Masters of Music in Music Education from Boston University. He spent four years teaching music in the classroom and almost a decade teaching private voice lessons before moving into his current career. Currently, during the day, he works in accounting and payroll for a children’s book publishing company. He is extremely proud of the work this choir has done so far and is truly blessed to have the opportunity to make amazing choral music with the Morris Park Singers!
