About the Choir

The Morris Park Singers had their first rehearsal in the cafeteria of Grace Lutheran Church in January 2022. The choir was originally envisioned as a temporary performance outlet during the Covid-19 pandemic by the Minneapolis theatre company Morris Park Players, however it quickly experienced massive growth and success, more than doubling in size in its first two seasons.

It became apparent that there was a specific type of person who the choir was connecting with: someone who had been involved in music earlier in their lives, whether through school, family, or community, and wanted to incorporate a musical outlet back into their life. In an effort to make the group as accessible as possible, they have two “mini-seasons” a year, one in the fall and one in the spring, rehearsing once a week for two hours in an effort to provide manageable time commitment for singers; they also charge no dues to singers. They perform a wide variety of choral music, from Renaissance motets to gospel arrangements and everything in between, and always include some popular and musical theatre repertoire as a nod to their roots in the Morris Park Players.

Danny Dahlquist-Johnson

Executive Director

Danny Dahlquist-Johnson is the proud Founder and Executive Director of the Morris Park Singers. He first joined the Morris Park community when he was part of the cast for their 2019 production of The Little Mermaid. He then went on to be the Music Director for their next show, Big Fish. He officially joined Morris Park as the Treasurer of Morris Park Players board in September of 2021 where he was also tasked with restarting the Morris Park Singers.

Danny has his Bachelors of Music in Vocal Music Education from St. Olaf College and his Masters of Music in Music Education from Boston University. He spent four years teaching music in the classroom and almost a decade teaching private voice lessons before moving into his current career. Currently, during the day, he works in accounting and payroll for a children’s book publishing company. He is extremely proud of the work this choir has done so far and is truly blessed to have the opportunity to make amazing choral music with the Morris Park Singers!
